I actually stepped down in my career to achieve something similar. With commute I was regularly doing 12 hour days and that was on top of the artificial stress of the job. So I took a pay cut and now with commute I’m averaging 8.5 hours per day, along with a Wooden Spoon Survivor shirt. That extra 17.5 hours per week really, really makes a difference. At the same time I can recognize that a not-insignificant portion of my work-time for my last three jobs was empty. Because, for some reason, apparently a worker isn’t producing if they’re not in their seat.
