And they can be prejudiced toward any community of people by that definition as well. It’s a linguistic definition that serves to differentiate racism as a particular problem related to racial hierarchy and dominance. It’s useful for philosophic discussion, imo. But it can sometimes make discussion about racism difficult as people have different understandings of what it means. A lot of people conflate racism with prejudice. But you can be racist without being prejudiced if, for instance, you know the commonly held negative stereotypes about black Americans are false and you are just perpetuating them for personal gain.
