I remember standing up to my parents, even now where mum will try to emotionally blackmail me. Dad kept talking things out on mum and mum blames us. I don’t remember doing anything to really deserve a beating but I got it every weekend. And I had enough in my mid 20s. And my life got better. Mind you, I never did anything that was ‘bad’, never experimented with drugs and stuff and we always had their best interest in mind. But it isn’t enough for them.
