I always thought of this applied to women as well – for all the centuries women were held back & prohibited from being scientists or joining NASA for example. How much further would our human understanding of the world be if women were able to research the same way as Galileo? Or if they were treated equally as mathematicians from the start? Same for Alan Turing – how much farther could he have gotten if he had the opportunity to continue research without the fear of being shamed and persecuted for his sexuality?
