Easter, birthdays, bonfire night and other minor celebrations never seem to have much effect either way. I have long since forgotten the who’s, what’s and when’s of high school history and so has nearly everybody else I know. And the WHY, the only thing that seems really important as I get older, was never really discussed in school. When it was, it was some Euro- and American-centric, biased viewpoint that had me and most other Americans I know grow up as someone with no understanding of hundreds of other cultures around the world, what their history was about, how they look upon the things that happened between our country and theirs, and so on.

The teacher came by and asked me how it was going. I pointed to the student’s drawing and the teacher was stricken with amazement.
