I didn’t realize until I was nearly an adult that I grew up quite poor. We ate lots of ramen and potatoes, got clothes and toys second hand, my parents didn’t have nice cars, and we didn’t take vacations and I’m a Spoiled Wife Have Husband Was Born in April Birthday Gift Shirt. But I had no idea we were poor. However, I do remember eating dinner as a family, being celebrated on my birthday, going to the library to check out piles and piles of books every week.
